A customer is requesting visual feedback on his AMX touch panels showing the current input level for any given microphone in his system. I limited his expectations to a showing a single mic at a time, so now I just need to figure out the best way to implement it. I see that there are a couple of commands in the API for getting levels - 'LVL' and 'LVLREPORT'. I assume that 'LVL' reports the level value once and that 'LVLREPORT' reports the level value continuously. I don't anticipate having a problem parsing the incoming serial data back to the level meter on the touch panel. Here are my questions: Which method is more efficient - polling for level at a regular interval ('LVL' command) , or managing the constant incoming serial data ('LVLREPORT')? If polling works best, what's the ideal polling rate? In any case, I plan on requesting level information only when the appropriate touch panel page is shown.

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks.
