ClearOne is looking for a Senior Printed Circuit Board (PCB) Designer. This position may be located in our Salt Lake City, Utah or our Gainsville, Florida office. The successful candidate will be responsible for component placement and trace routing artwork for board-level electrical hardware. This hardware will be incorporated into our professional audio and enterprise conferencing systems. The selected candidate will develop board artwork, release manufacturing documentation packages, and perform associated component library maintenance for digital and analog audio circuitry, RF circuitry, firmware, and serial interface solutions for conferencing applications.  Tasks will include PCB artwork generation, design rule checks, some schematic updates, and schematic BOM generation.  The selected candidate must be capable of working independently and/or as part of an integrated product team.

Required Education and Critical Skills: 

  • Associate’s degree in Electronics Engineering Technology, or equivalent
  • 5+ years of industry experience with design of PCBs using Altium Designer.
  • Experience with CAD library management including creation and management of schematic symbols, component footprints, and the component database
  • Experience designing length matched traces for high speed signals.
  • Experience with design rules for routing AC mains voltage.
  • Experience generating PCB assembly documentation packages including pick and place files, fabrication detail drawings, PCB assembly drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
  • Experience laying out single-sided, double-sided, and multi-layer (e.g. up to 12 layer) boards incorporating high pin count FPGAs and BGAs, surface mount components, and through-hole components.
  • Experience working with electrical engineers to optimize component placement and signal routing to minimize board size.
  • Experience working with mechanical engineers on connector placement, physical size and area constraints, and methods used to avoid mechanical interference between components and the product’s enclosure.
  • Experience avoiding and resolving Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Test (DFT) issues.
  • Strong communication, documentation, teamwork, and organizational skills.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with schematic capture in addition to layout
  • Experience with Radio Frequency PCB Layout
  • Experience with PCB layout techniques used to minimize unintentional Radio Frequency emissions from a board
