Companies are constantly searching for the smartest and brightest employees, and the modern workspace is becoming more and more crucial to help recruit and retain them. Gone are the workspaces of cubicles, blank walls and a small break room with a ping pong table. Employees today are looking for places to allow them to create their best work, to feel like an individual who matters and not just a corporate drone.
Airbnb is a community marketplace for people to list, discover, and book unique accommodations around the world. They connect people to unique travel experiences such as spending a night in a cabin in Australia, a weekend get-a-way in a designer studio in the heart of Paris, or even a week in a windmill in the United Kingdom.
This unique company wanted to design their workspace to become a visual manifestation of their company brand. So their 200 San Francisco employees work in one of eight environments that replicate their exotic property listings— from a Copenhagen pad with faux timber beams, to Balinese home with potted palms and a woven grass ceiling.
So why is ClearOne, a global company that designs, develops and sells conferencing, collaboration, streaming and digital signage solutions for audio and visual communications talking about office design?
Well, we were already known as a game changer in the pro-audio industry. Our Beamforming Microphone Array is the first professional-grade microphone array with beamforming and adaptive steering technology and ClearOne’s next-generation Acoustic Echo Cancellation. It has twenty-four microphone elements steer pickup patterns towards participants and reject unwanted noise and reflections, offering superb and unmatched performance for group conferencing environments.
Lisa Bottom, a principal at Gensler, the global design firm behind the Airbnb and Facebook offices said that the design for Airbnb “…was to be an enabler of their company’s culture.” One of the conference rooms recreates one of the most iconic movie sets of all time — the War Room from Stanley Kubrick’s 1964 classic Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb. The sleek Beamforming Microphone Array, with a high glossy white exterior made it a perfect choice for this unique room design. This single unit is able to cover all attendees in the room with pickup patterns that steer towards the speaker, and cancel out unwanted noise, echo, reflections, and more. It’s form matches the functionality perfectly, and give Airbnb the quality audio they need along with complimenting the design of the room. The War Room at Airbnb is so cool, it even has its own check-in on Four Square!
The design on the Beamforming Microphone Array also is a visual manifestation of our company brand. Its ultra-sleek and modern design reflects the pioneering and leading-edge thinking that defines ClearOne as a company. The Beamforming Microphone Array has a low profile that can subtly blend into the ceiling, or wall, or a clean and eye-catching display as a table microphone with its attractive blue LED lighting. Businesses no longer want dozens of ceiling mics creating a busy sightline in the executive conference room, and this one unit can replace up to ten traditional microphones. The unit’s flexible mounting allows designers to have the freedom to create a beautiful workspace, and the installer is able to produce the crystal clear audio that you expect from ClearOne, no matter where it is mounted in the room.
