New Overlay Region support for the EZ-Stream Database Integration Software Content

Written on October 7, 2011 at 4:17 pm, by

We are excited to reveal a new method for displaying theEZ-Stream Database Integration software content in your Aavelin projects.

Users can now select an area or region on the screen where they would like their information from their database displayed. The template that gets generated from EZ-Stream will be overlayed on top of other content in the project such as backgrounds, images, and text. This is similar to how our LogoBug works and our Crawl regions.

Typically, EZ-Stream data was displayed full screen by itself. If a user wanted to play Digital Signage content as well, the EZ-Stream data was appended to the end of the signage project after it cycled through all of its pages. After the EZ-Stream content ended, the process would repeat.

The new EZ-Stream Overlay Region feature allows a user to display any Digital Signage content at the same time as their EZ-Stream database information. This gives the user greater control over what their audience sees and when they see it. Now you can make sure your audience views relevant and up to date content while simultaneously viewing real time data such as meeting  & conference room schedules, building directories, prices updates and many more other types of data.

Check out the diagram below for a great visual of the EZ-Steam Database Integration software’s overlay region.

Engage your Customers with Digital Menuboards

Written on September 26, 2011 at 4:16 pm, by

Digital menuboards are a great way to keep your customers informed of the latest products, services, prices, and location of your offerings. Some examples of where you can put a digital menuboard are:

Menuboard Example for a Grocery Store

  • Restaurants
  • Grocery Stores
  • Sports Arenas
  • Coffee Shops
  • Bar and Grills
  • Cafeterias
  • Mall Food Courts

There are many uses and applications for digital menuboards. There are two types of digital menuboards, one is a Static menuboard and the other is a Dynamic menuboard.

Static menuboards require a user to update the information manually using some kind of desktop or web based software application to add text, graphics, as well as any crawling overlay text that may be needed. Once the data has been input into the software, the new information needs to be sent to the screens that are displaying the digital menuboard. This is typically performed over a network.

Dynamic menuboards are fully automated and can update information without manual assistance. These types of menuboards use a server application to drive them. The software is installed on a user’s desktop or on the digital signage server that resides on their local area network (LAN) and is accessed from the application itself or from a web interface. Integration into the user’s database or Point of Sale (POS) is established to pull the information that he or she wishes to display. Once that is done, a layout template is created and inserted into the application. This is typically the logo and background image with colors to match the branding of the company. The layout template is also set up with columns of where the database information will be placed and headers are added to signify what the data is within each column.

After the initial set up, the software queries a database and then automatically updates the menuboards without additional work.

Employees update their current databases as they typically would throughout their working day inputting new products, inventory, price changes and more.

Here is how content that updates dynamically can benefit you:

  • Save time and money from repetitive input
  • Promote specials, events, & news
  • Increase product visibility
  • Real-time information
  • Strengthen your brand
  • Visually engage customers with great graphics
  • Build customer relationships

There are many types of software and hardware that could be used to create a menuboard. Have a look at what we offer and see if we have a solution that meets your applications needs.

Do you have a place where a dynamic menuboard would work well at? If so, please share your thoughts and ideas on the use and placement of this great medium.

ClearOne logoSALT LAKE CITY, Sept. 6, 2011 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ — ClearOne CLRO -3.47% , a global communications and entertainment solutions company, today announced its acquisition of MagicBox, Inc. The acquisition is a part of the company’s broader strategy to capitalize on emerging market opportunities as audio video, information technology, unified communications and traditional digital signage converge to meet enterprise and commercial multimedia needs.

“The combined expertise of the two companies brings to the market, the only complete, end-to-end digital signage content management and IP streaming solution,” said Zee Hakimoglu, Chairman and CEO of ClearOne. “The MagicBox content management and control technology and their industry leading database integration software are the perfect compliments to ClearOne’s StreamNet(TM) systems.”

Privately-held MagicBox, headquartered in Corvallis, Oregon and founded in 1995, designs, develops and markets a variety of hardware and software solutions to deliver digital content and information to digital displays.

“MagicBox and ClearOne have complementary products for a broad spectrum of applications,” said Tom Searcy, founder of MagicBox. “One of the single-most challenging requirements for any digital signage provider is the ability to distribute content over a wide-area network while maintaining control and scheduling alignment. MagicBox Is On Top Of The Mountain

Written on August 9, 2011 at 12:30 pm, by

From fast-paced cities to slow and quiet mountains, digital signage is everywhere you look.

MagicBox had a great opportunity to work with Glenn Martin of Automated Digital Display Systems LLC to be part of an exciting signage campaign for the USDA. They wanted several displays to show visitor information at high traffic areas of Berthfoud Pass which is located in the Rocky Mountains of central Colorado. Another reason to have it in this location is to be able to communicate with this remote emergency warming hut in emergency situations when road or weather conditions prohibit driving to it.

A good friend of Glenn’s named Leslie, who is an audio engineer, rode her bike up with a companion to the top of Berthfoud Pass to capture some amazing photos of the install as well as get some awesome exercise.

Since this was a remote location that isn’t patrolled 24/7, the USDA required a special case to protect their hardware from the elements as well as possible vandalism, Glenn and his team manufactured a bullet-proof kiosk enclosure that housed a 42″ LCD display and one our Aavelin SignMate units.

They turned out great and have been well received by the multitude of visitors that travel to Berthfoud Pass for all of their adventures.

Thanks again to Leslie for the wonderful pictures and to Glenn and his team at Automated Digital Displays for a fantastic job.

In case you missed us at DSE 2011

Written on March 3, 2011 at 4:05 pm, by

If you weren’t able to visit us at he DSE2011 show this year, don’t worry, we have our product highlights and offerings below.  Let us know what you think. We’d love to hear from you.

Aavelin: A Turn-key Digital Signage Solution

Aavelin SignMate2 Player

Aavelin Cafe

Our tightly coupled Aavelin solution involving our own media players and Content Creation and Management software brings you ease of use and reliability that is needed in a digital signage solution. At DSE, we introduced two new small form factor players: our re-designed SignMate player and the Cafe player. The SignMate2 is capable of outputting a 1080p video signal and supports Flash, DivX, and H.264 multimedia. The Cafe on the other hand, is a low-end, economical player designed for static content and DivX video clips.

Whatever your need may be, we have a player that will fit your content requirements and your budget.

EZ-Stream: Database Integration

EZ-Stream Software
EZ-Stream is a software application that can extract information from a database and automatically display that information on any of our media players. Use EZ-Stream to display meeting schedules and events, menus, manufacturing and call center statistics, or any other important information. EZ-Stream keeps your display up to date through you maintaining the information in whatever data source you are extracting it from. Data can be extracted from any relational database (SQL, Oracle, MySQL) or from many 3rd party scheduling software like Microsoft Exchange Server.

Concession Stand Menuboard

EZ-Stream is there for you 24/7.

RoomRoster 10.4

RoomRoster: All-in-one Digital Signs
The RoomRoster is a small digital display with a built in MagicBox player. This is ideal for displaying schedules of individual conference rooms or displaying product information in a department store isle. The RoomRoster comes in two models: the 5.7 and the 10.4. The 5.7 can be operated with Power Over Ethernet and comes with our EZ-Stream software for integrating schedules from a database. The 10.4, in addition, also comes with our standardComposer software which supports DivX video clips and crawling text. The 10.4 must be connected to a standard power source. The RoomRoster is the most economical solution for a combined product of software, media player, and a display.

MagicSwitch Buttons

We demonstrated a new concept at the show using large round buttons to change what content is playing on the display. A press of these buttons can either cause the entire project (content playlist) to change or you can also trigger a single page to play for OnDemand content switching. This is ideal for a situation where you want the viewer to be able to change what is on the display. In a retail environment, a customer could bring up information on a particular product or employees could quickly change the display to in-store promotions.

These buttons connect directly to any Aavelin media player via USB. Although they are still in beta, this product will be available in Q2.

Thanks again for stopping by and showing interest in the digital signage solutions we offer. If you have a situation where our products would be a good fit, or if you would like pricing or a quote, please contact Tom Searcy at 541-752-5654 or email
